DANCE

Contemporary Dance is an evolution of Western concert dance that plays between extremes of movement form and subject. There is no formal adherence to narrative, in the Contemporary vernacular movement itself is a valid and interesting subject. What is exciting to Harmonic Laboratory about contemporary dance is the play between these two extremes, the ability to look completely outside the box for new ways to shape human movement into art.

BUILDING CONNECTIONS

Of all of the performing arts, dance is among the most inherently collaborative.

Dance requires social awareness to create and transfer material on and between bodies, to negotiate timing and traffic patterns in space, and to execute movements in partnerships with others. Choreographers in the contemporary process routinely collaborate with their dancers, as they do with costume designers, lighting designers, composers, stage managers, and any other creative that is brought into a given project. Harmonic Laboratory incorporates dance as a relatable form, representing real relationships between spectators and performers and symbolic relationships between dancers on stage or screen.

STRUCTURAL VISION

Harmonic Lab seeks to educate people of all ages and backgrounds on the health benefits and expressive potential of human movement and embodiment through workshops, classes, performances and pre- or post-show Q&A sessions.
