Project Description
Salto interacts with the space between pedestrian play and athletic form. A body in motion activates multiple modes of performance. A figure springing through the air and cut across five monitors reveals the relationship between body and space, and how we simultaneously move with and in relation to our bodies. Movement happens through a navigation of body and space.
Repetition, anticipation and play is at once “on” the screen as it is “off.” Like Gestalt theory, the moving body collapses into one single entity, merging the screens and the wall into one illusionist reality. In our constructed view of movement, what then do we call “virtual”? Is virtual the screen that depicts the figure or our imagination that creates him in the spaces between?
